The Orion-Tr Smart 12/12-30A non-isolated DC-DC charger is Victron's professional solution to charging a 12V auxiliary or leisure battery from your engine's 12V alternator. It is fully compatible with 'smart' alternators found in Euro 5 and later vehicles and is Bluetooth-enabled, so can be monitored and configured remotely via the VictronConnect app. It can be used to charge all lead-acid battery types (wet, Gel, AGM) as well as lithium and the charging profile is fully configurable to allow you to match the voltages recommended by your battery's manufacturer.
The Orion Smart unit can operate as a fully configurable battery charger with an adaptive 3-stage charging algorithm, or as a DC-DC converter. The adaptive charging algorithm means that, for lead-acid batteries, the charger will automatically modify the absorption time to account for the depth of discharge. For shallower discharges, the absorption time is reduced to prevent over-charging.
Unlike other DC-DC chargers that rely on hard-wired signalling from the alternator or ignition, the Orion Smart does not require any additional wires or sensors which simplifies installation. The 'engine-on' detection is software-driven and is fully configurable via the VictronConnect app.
This unit will operate in high temperatures up to 55°C and it will produce the full rated output of 30A up to 40°C.

Excellent product, easy to set or reset via Bluetooth when tucked away under the seat. Be aware that the BT pairing code has been preset and is on a sticker on the box. It is not 000000 as indicated by the App!

Fully programmable for Lifep04 batteries. 26 April 2022 | Mark
Went with another brand DC to DC which had Lifep04 settings via dip switches. It did the job but charged the battery to 14.6 volts each time. I wanted more flexibility on the full charge voltage to try and maximise by battery life , 13.6 volts , and the Victron allowed me this flexibility. Recommended for Lifep04 batteries.

Not usual victron blue amazing standard. For price, vs features vs output. No smart network, no connecting to raspberry pi or GX network, Bluetooth is basically same as what others would use dip switches for then never need to change again. It's market filling product imho. 30amp for double price of all competitors. No reverse polarity protection. No repair options.
All other victron products A++ avoid this one till revision two or three comes out in years to come.

Hi, Thanks for your review. Whilst these features are not present at this time Victron is looking into adding them in further updates.
The Bluetooth feature does enable the changing of settings without having to access the unit meaning you can hide it away without needing to access it again. This can be especially helpful when upgrading battery chemistries in the future.
Whilst repairs are not offered on damaged caused due to installation errors Victron products are robust and feature a 5-year warranty and any issue will be resolved quickly and effectively. To avoid damaging the unit during installation we advise customers to read through the manual available through our download/link section and on the Victron website carefully and follow the markings on the unit.
