Worried About Your Batteries Self-Discharging?

We often get asked by our customers for a way that a starter battery can be kept topped up when leaving a vehicle for a long period of time. One of the easiest solutions is to use a Sterling Battery to Battery Maintainer which is a simple, low cost device which will prevent your batteries from self-discharging and becoming damaged.

The Maintainer works by allowing some of the current (3A max.) supplied to a leisure battery by solar, mains, wind etc to be diverted to a second battery and it keep maintained. It can also be used between a combination of different battery types for example, if you have a lead acid starter battery and a lithium leisure battery, this will be fine to use. It has various safety features built in such as protection against over voltage, over temperature and reverse-polarity protection. The unit is also IP65 rated and ignition-protected so it is suitable for use in even the harshest of conditions.

This is the most popular trickle charger in our range and it is designed to prevent against self discharge of a battery but it is not intended to be used to ‘bulk’ charge a heavily depleted battery (the unit does not have multi-stage charger capability due to the limited current it can produce). This unit works in the same way that other trickle chargers that we stock work in that it will activate once it sees a charging voltage above 13.3V on a battery and deactivate when that voltage is below 12.8V. The device is intended to be fairly simple to install, it is just fitted in-line between the positive terminals of the two batteries with 10A fuses. It also requires a negative connection that must be ‘common’ with both batteries.
