Description
Powerpole connectors from Anderson Power Products are a modular system for quick and easy connection and disconnection of cables. Housings have moulded-in 'dovetails' which interlock, allowing them to be built into blocks of connectors and enabling them to be 'keyed' to prevent incorrect connections. The housings are genderless so to make a connection just turn one upside down and plug them together.
This housing is sold as a single housing without terminals - please choose from the following terminals to fit (depending on your cable size / current rating requirements):

When I first came across these many years ago I wondered if they were up to the job. However I've never had any trouble. The design of the metallic connector is good. If you slide two together you can make a connection that ensure you get the polarity correct every time.

Makes for a very neat connection, but a few caveats:
1. Buy more of the metal connector terminals than you think you will need. You will inevitably ruin two or three whilst you get used to exactly how to do it.
2. Buy the recommended crimping tool. I had a couple of good crimpers to hand so didn't bother initially, but it's quite hard to do it right without the tool. There is very little clearance inside the plastic sleeve, so unless you get the crimp just right the connector won't fit into the sleeve.
3. It's not clear from the linked video which way up the metal piece goes into the plastic sleeve. This video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzLvdR6X81k shows how it should go.
Once you get the hang of it though, a very satisfying result.
