The 182 Accumulator Tank from Shurflo is an ideal accompaniment to the Shurflo Trail King range of pressure-activated water pumps. It dampens the pump pulsations to provide smoother water flow, longer pump life, reduced system noise, and reduced pump power consumption.
The Accumulator is a bladder-type pressure storage vessel and provides additional water storage to assist the pump in meeting the total demands of the water system. It is particularly useful if you find your pump is cycling on/off rapidly as this device can cure these symptoms and extend pump life. It should be fitted downstream of the pump, before any filters or check valves, on the pressurised side of the system, e.g. directly connected to the pump, remotely in-line, or in a 'Tee' branch (in which case one of the ports must be capped off). The ports are non-directional with respect to flow, and the unit can be fitted in any orientation. Shurflo recommends connecting to this unit with flexible hose to reduce noise and vibration in the system (see 'further information' below for suitable port fittings).
This unit is shipped unpressurised (i.e. with no pre-charge pressure in the bladder) and must be pressurised before use. This is easily achieved via the standard car/bicycle tyre valve (Schrader valve) located at the bottom of the unit, using a hand or foot pump. Shurflo recommends that the pre-charge pressure is set to the same as the pump's activation (turn-on) pressure and then checked periodically using a standard tyre pressure gauge.
