Description

This single, fixed/recessed induction hob from Sterling Power is ideal for use with an inverter connected to a 12V battery. Its compact size and low-profile design make it simple to mount in a worktop, whilst the 8 power/temperature settings give you fast and responsive control over the maximum 1800W heat output. The convenient remote control unit can be mounted on a nearby surface and provides a range of functions including power/temperature control, cooking timer with alarm and 'pause' mode.

Generating heat directly within the cookware, induction cookers are far more efficient than conventional electric or gas hobs and are capable of reaching higher temperatures, so making much better use of the available energy in your battery. There is also no naked flame or open element and only the surface of the hob in contact with the pan gets hot, so they are safer than conventional gas or electric hobs when used in enclosed spaces found in motorhomes, campervans, caravans and boats.

This hob features an easy-to-clean A-grade black crystal glass cooking plate with convenient touch-control, power level display, and several safety features such as over-temperature protection and auto-off.

The unit comes fitted with a UK 3-pin plug and can be run either from a grid mains supply or from a 230V inverter connected to a battery.  If using with an inverter, you will need a pure sinewave type and we recommend one with an output greater than 1800W. This will allow you to make use of the hob's full heat output without risking overload and shut-down of the inverter.

Ideal for use in leisure vehicles, off-grid buildings or whilst camping.

Default power setting - P8
Rating:
11 November 2023  |

Since the default power setting is P8 (maximum power), it would be practial to be able to preset the power setting before starting cooking. This would allow to preserve battaries when off-grid. Or having the default power setting as P1 (the lowest value). Is it possible to change the default power setting to P1 rather than starting with P8 every time?

Response:

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. I have spoken with Sterling who have said:

There is no way of changing the default. However, you simply select the P rating before you press go. It doesn’t just fire up at full power. You have to select go.

I hope this helps and if you need anything else, please email us at sales@12voltplanet.co.uk and we will be happy to help

Manual has recommendations for required inverters on page 7.

Not what it said on the tin

Sold as a 1500 watt Hob, when you open the box and read the instructions it says it will draw 1600 watt if your running off an inverter, so not suitable for a 1500 watt inverter, also it actually draws 1700 watt from the inverter not 1600 watt.

Response:

Thank you for your review, Following your review we had this unit tested and found the draw on the highest setting to be around 1480W. Following our conversation following the test, we are happy the unit is working as advertised.

We have found that some cheaper inverters will sadly go into overload at much lower draws than advertised due to inefficiencies & would recommend testing the unit on household mains or a high-quality inverter to improve this.
