wanted to fit this to my van.rear of the socket completely open so not waterproof.
no idea how to open the unit up to solder the cable on.

The rear of this socket is not waterproof, it is supposed to be mounted on a bulkhead/panel and the rear is where you make your connections. The front becomes waterproof either when the plug is inserted or when the cover is on. Many thanks

bit fiddly but got there in the end, ensure you use solder flux, its a lot easier
managed to lose cover though, any chance of a replacement?

Installed in land rover for high current application perfect.

Purchased to provide a 12v connection socket for a solar panel. A rubber gasket is provided to give a water seal, also a cap for when it is not in use. My only criticisms are that the provided fixing screws are a bit on the short side (making getting the nuts on in a confined space difficult) and the fixing hole for the cap securing chain is too large for the provided fixing screws (I was able to secure it onto something else nearby). Apart from those minor points, very pleased with my purchase.

Fitted in a yacht cockpit so open to the elements 24/7/365. A bit of a fiddle to connect, outdoor soldering is never easy, several hands are required. Fitting screws too short for anything but a very thin panel. Needed to make a cover for rear of bulkhead to protect soldered connections from physical damage/shorting.
Once fully fitted the connector seems to be relatively robust. Cover cap certainly waterproof. Plug connection is positive and looks like it should stand up to rain. Maybe a little vulnerable because of the length of the plug but only time will tell.
Overall very optimistic that this will do the job and last the course. I'll be back in a few years to add the fifth star.

I bought these to make a battery box for a dinghy. The quick connect makes taking the battery in and out quick and easy. I would have given it 5 stars but I've not tested the waterproofness yet but it was fine with the spray that it had. Plus as you have to add holes for the fixing bolts this looked like a weakness so I have added sealant on the back.
