This 7635 m-LVD Low Voltage Disconnect from Blue Sea Systems is a 65A power saving device that senses battery voltage and automatically disconnects loads to save battery power for engine starting or to preserve battery life by preventing over-discharge. It can be used in single 12V battery systems, typically where the starter battery also powers auxiliary or non-essential circuits, or in dual 12V battery systems to guard against harmful over-discharge of lead-acid auxiliary batteries.
Its IP67 waterproof, ignition-protected design makes it particularly useful in outboard-powered open day boats or fishing boats that have a single starter battery and a small number of auxiliary circuits also powered from that battery (e.g. nav lights, stereo, fish finder, chart plotter, VHF, 12V sockets, etc.). It can act as an invaluable safety device, allowing you to retain sufficient power in the battery to start the outboard and prevent you being stranded. Once the engine is re-started, the auxiliary circuits will be re-connected.
The disconnect voltage is adjustable between 11.3V and 12.1V using the illuminated Remote Control Switch (7928) supplied with the m-LVD and status lights in both the m-LVD and remote control switch provide a visual warning that the low voltage has been reached, prior to the m-LVD disconnecting. The switch can also be used to override the low voltage warning (and silence an optional remote alarm if fitted), delay the disconnection, or manually disconnect the circuits until the voltage rises.
When the low voltage threshold is reached the the m-LVD will wait for 5 minutes before activating the warning. The warning will continue for a further 5 mins, after which the m-LVD will disconnect the loads (10 mins total time from reaching low voltage to disconnection).
The m-LVD can be mounted in one of three ways: rear panel mount, front panel mount, or surface mount (fixings not included). Break out panels are included in the protective cover to allow for multiple cable entry options when surface mounted and all terminal connections are tin-plated brass to resist corrosion in harsh marine environments.
